Commander’s Comments
Planning for the 2010 Illinois Wing Summer Encampment has been underway since the close of SE 2009, and I am excited about new developments for this year. Other Wings will join us for encampment in 2010, giving us a chance to interact with numerous cadets and senior members from other Wings, in addition to the cadets we attract from all over the country. We have made many changes to encampment over the past several years, and our participation numbers prove what a great job we are doing. The outlook for the 2010 encampment is superb! We have many activities in store for our cadets, and I look forward to having you join us to challenge yourself and build your teamwork and leadership skills.
Senior Staff
The adult leaders who attend and assist with summer encampment are Civil Air Patrol Senior Members. These dedicated individuals are volunteers who give their personal time, energy, and finances to plan and attend encampment. Senior members take vacation time from work to spend the week at Camp Lincoln. They provide their personal experience and expertise to teach and shape our cadets into the leaders of tomorrow. Without the devotion of senior members, encampment would not be possible. Thank you to the many senior members who partner to make encampment a reality each summer.
Cadets
Each year we have cadets from all over Illinois Wing and Great Lakes Region join us for encampment. In recent years, we have had cadets from several other wings, including Texas, California, Colorado, Florida, Tennessee, Missouri, Minnesota, and Hawaii, join us for our encampment. Cadets can come to encampment and participate in many different capacities including command staff, support staff, basic encampment, Advanced Training Squadron, Communications School, and First Responder School. Details about all of these aspects of encampment are contained in the pages of this website.
Facility
For the last three years we have been fortunate enough to be hosted at the Illinois Military Academy at Camp Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois. This Army National Guard Facility provides us with many opportunities for training, classrooms, billets, mess facilities and access to many instructors. It is located close to the Springfield Airport, the headquarters of our powered orientation flights. We want to thank the staff of the IMA for being gracious hosts and making our stay at Camp Lincoln very rewarding. Thank you for your continued support of the Illinois Wing Summer Encampment.
If you’re a cadet or a senior and you’re looking to be challenged this summer, then look no further than the Illinois Wing Summer Encampment.
Thank you,
Maj G Kelly Robertson, CAP Commander Illinois Wing Summer Encampment
